When the world comes to an end, I will have loved you for a long time.

When I was a kid, I was super obsessed with death for years. I’d get all depressed because “Oh God, why watch G.I. Joe and drink Sunny Delight if I’m just gonna die anyway?!” If I had had any friends at the time, I’m sure they would’ve been very annoyed by it all.

There I was, filled with nine years of wisdom, trying to figure out which was better — living your dreams surrounded by friends and the love of your life, just to have it all taken away when you die, or ignoring all of that good stuff in life so you would have less to lose when the world blows up. Don’t even get nine-year-old me started on religion and reincarnation.

I must have been so much fun during recess.

I eventually had an epiphany. I had no idea what an epiphany was at the time, but I had one, and my obsession with death was kaput. I don’t remember all the details, but it involved squirrels, moss, and the complexity of the human body. And, yes, I am serious about the squirrel and moss thing. Squirrels and moss may very well be partly responsible from keeping nine-year-old me from jumping off the monkey bars and ending it all.

Anyway, I decided to just let whatever happens happen and hopefully live my dreams surrounded by friends and the love of my life, even if the world does end up blowing up.

What’s the point of life if you waste it obsessing about death?

There you have it — life and death as nine-year-old me and “…”-year-old me see it. And I still don’t care for G.I. Joe or Sunny Delight. Sunny Delight is too sugary, and G.I. Joe? Thanks to another epiphany from my youth, I’ve always felt it was just an early recruitment tool for the military. No, Joe!

And you guys thought I was gonna write about the ”Aflockalypse…”
