Today is my birthday! Sorta! OK, not really. I was born on the 29th of February, which is a day that only comes around once every four years, which I’m pretty sure makes me magical or something. I’ve always just celebrated it on the 27th during off-years. Why not the 28th? Well, my mom was big into numbers and their meaning, and, apparently, the 28th is not a good day to celebrate your birthday on or whatever. I never really asked what the exact reason was.

Until last year there would only be a few people on earth who would actually know it was my birthday, but then I got into Twitter and Tumblr and all that good stuff. Twitter kind of got ruined from my OCD, but I first met a lot of my online friends there. And Tumblr? Don’t get me started on how important Tumblr is to me. It wasn’t all that long ago that I was housebound from my agoraphobia and didn’t have any damn friends, and now I’ve got Twitter and Tumblr.

I don’t need a present for my (sort of) birthday. I’ve already gotten what I wanted. Thanks, dudes and dudettes.

And now, for no reason other than because I wanna, here’s a song that makes me smile. I hope it makes you smile too.

I’m really digging The Gaslight Anthem. I hope they stay the course because I’d love to hear what they’ll sound like a few albums from now. My only complaint is that I’d like for them to experiment with song structure and dynamics a bit more. With that said, I can see these guys eventually pulling a Wilco.

What’s pulling a Wilco? It’s when a band slowly and quietly sneak their way into filling stadiums. Filling stadiums with fans that swear by their albums. It’s a lot like pulling a Coldplay, except it’s a much slower process and has a lot less Gwyneth Paltrow and pre-show yoga.

I also think the drummer is channeling Max Weinberg on this track, which is cool with me.

Go Team Coco!!!

If you like what you hear, head on over to iTunes. I think it’s their free single of the week.

I sent this song off to lafix the other day and figured I’d share it with the rest of you Tumbletopians. This is off of Wilco’s double album Being There. Two discs of Wilco goodness. Magnificent.

I remember seeing them perform this on Conan with help from The Max Weinberg 7 on horns. They didn’t fill stadiums back then, but you could tell that they would one day. They’re one of those bands who’s releases you look forward to because they are consistently good. Even when they’re experimenting. I don’t think they are capable of releasing a bad album.
