I’ve been craving new music for awhile now, and last night I asked Kelly for suggestions. “The Naked and Famous!” Who am I to argue with an exclamation point? I listened to them, digged them, and downloaded them. Then I did what I always do when I discover kick-ass new music. I went for a walk at 3:30 in the very early morning.

There I was, walking along the mostly empty road, bobbing my head to this song, when a car passes by before slowing to a stop a little ways ahead of me. This is normally not a good sign where I live. I was pretty sure some dudes were going to jump out and stab me or, at the very least, take my iPhone. I had to decide: keep walking or turn tail.

Stereo turns tail for no man! I will die as stubborn and stupid as the day I was born!

I kept walking until I was parallel with the passenger side window. To my immediate relief, there was nothing but a lone elderly gentleman in the car. I started to calm down, but then it occurred to me… what if this old guy was going to murder me? That would be so much worse somehow than being killed by someone my own age. “Oh God, someone help me! A hundred-year-old man is very slowly beating me to death with his walker between long, wheezing gasps for air!”

Well, it turns out he saw me walking alone in the wee hours of the morning and just wanted to offer a ride. I stopped wetting my pants mid stream, thanked him for his kindness, and he was on his way. I was only a block or two from my house, after all.

Where was I? Oh yeah, this band is pretty dang awesome, and you guys should check them out or at least hit play.

I started 2010 with a handful of great new artists and bands on my radar, but this hasn’t been the case with 2011. With a few new songs rattling my headphones, I’m feeling a bit rejuvenated, so I figured I’d ask more people for suggestions.

How about it, Tumblr? What have you been listening to in the new year?

“Punching in a Dream” by The Naked and Famous

The Naked and Famous’ official site, Facebook, and iTunes pages

You can buy Passive Me Aggressive you, the album this song is from, for only $7.99 on iTunes. Not bad for fourteen tracks, Tumblr.

“These humid temps may be in the 90’s, but they sure send my hair right back to the 80’s.” - @kellydeal

It was raining when I woke, so I put off heading down to Star Bucks to catch up on Twitter. This was the first tweet I starred, and now I can’t get this song out of my cranium. But I can’t complanium; This is probably my favorite 80’s track.

So far I have been listening to it on repeat for two hours.

Two awesome hours.

“Always Something There to Remind Me” by Naked Eyes

If I remember correctly, this song was written by Burt Bacharach. Just a little useless music trivia for you, Tumbletopians.

You’re welcome.

Me: What do you tolerate most about me?

Kelly: Your horrible, horrible taste in music.

You have no idea, Kelly. This is a cover of Radiohead’s “High and Dry” by Jamie Cullum. And guess what? I prefer it to the original version.

Feel free to angrily un-follow me now, Tumbletopians, but hear me out first.

I like The Bends as much as the next guy, but I always felt that this song was the weak link of the album, despite it being probably the second most popular song from it. I heard even Thom Yorke doesn’t care much for it. I just think it’s surprisingly uninteresting. I didn’t like “Karma Police” off of OK Computer either. Except that rad line “This is what you get. This is what you get. This is what you get when you mess with us.”

I always thought this cover was lovely. Especially the ending. Just put down your torches and pitch forks and give this a listen before you judge me.
